Whether you’re in the mood for a delicious meal or a refreshing pint, Belle Isle is a place you’ll want to explore. In this article, we’ll look at the history, some of what they have to offer, and the overall experience you can expect to find at this beloved pub.
How It Started
Belle Isle Restaurant & Pub is a brewpub that was founded by David Riesenberg and Neill Hardin in 1995. It has since become a popular destination for those seeking a good meal in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The early years of the restaurant started when both owners started their experience in restaurant management for the Interurban.
They were both General Managers in different locations, but Neill wanted to open his own restaurant and began to consult with David about achieving that goal. The two of them worked together to turn this dream into a reality. Just a year before they opened Belle Isle Restaurant, David and Neill acquired the Interurban Restaurant and its catering business, as well as the Urban Market located inside the 50 Penn Place where their pub is located today.
They had to close the restaurant for a little while for remodeling, but they were finally able to complete the addition of the new brewpub. One year after opening the restaurant and brewery, Jim Stone, who started his career in the restaurant industry as well, joined David and Neill as an owner and General Partner.Â
Delicious Cuisine & Beer
They serve a variety of dishes including pizza, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, and more that are available until 10 pm. You can also order from the night menu between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Belle Isle is technically a brewpub (an establishment that sells beer that’s been brewed on premises). They’re renowned for their expertise in creating premium beer using top-notch ingredients and adhering to strict German brewing regulations.
Their beer menu is impressive, featuring an array of options available on tap at all times. Some of the beer options you’ll see include Flanagan’s Amber Ale, Belle’s Blonde, Captain Jack’s 44 Pilsner, Frozen Finger IPA, Irish Stout, and Marzen. Happy hour specials are available throughout the week, and visitors can enjoy live music on the weekends.
A Pub Atmosphere
Belle Isle Brewery & Pub is situated on the second level, directly above the restaurant. The upstairs bar is open until midnight during the weekdays and 1:30 a.m. on weekends. You’ll find 2 separate sections divided into smoking and non-smoking areas.
There are also numerous entertainment options available, such as pool, darts, and quite a few TVs. Bring your friends for Bingo night from 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. or stop in on Wednesday at the same time to play some trivia. On Friday and Saturday nights, you can watch live bands play on the stage while you enjoy your house-brewed beer!
More About the Live Music
Belle Isle Restaurant has teamed up with 79th Street Sound Stage to present thrilling live music inside the pub. They have a spacious stage, two bars, an indoor smoking area, and TVs placed throughout the area, which live streams concerts so you won’t miss any of the action. You can check out the line-up of events here.
