Kerr Park in Oklahoma City

Kerr Park is an urban park located pretty much in the center of downtown Oklahoma City, and was completely overhauled in 2018, making it one of the trendiest parks in the area. Today, the park is known to hold some of the most amazing events such as concerts, art events, movie nights, and other attractions.

Also, being located in the heart of OKC’s hustle and bustle of the business world, it’s also frequented by many business men and women who want a place to relax on their lunch break or even after work.

History of Kerr Park

Located between Robinsons and Broadway, the park was built by the Kerr-McGee corporation back in 1970. Unfortunately, as time passed the park did not match the original vision laid down by the company and most of the features never saw the light of day. It was not until the local parks and recreation community got involved and pulled in people from the neighborhood for their ideas.

After hosting a number of meetings and get-togethers, the counsel got an idea of what they needed to do and how to bring the park back to life.  And thanks to much support and large donations by Southwest Airlines, the project was made possible. 

Once the plans were put together, they began to push forward and finally finished a stunning scene in 2018.  Since then, the park has seen a great deal of foot traffic on a daily basis, pulling people in from different parts of Oklahoma City.

Amenities

Once the park was completely redone, the locals were able to enjoy the simple yet necessary additions to the park.

These include, but are not limited to, café tables, outdoor sofas, chairs, armchairs, loungers, picnic tables, play benches – along with retractable shades, table tennis tables, trash and recycling stations, decorative lights, Bocce Ball, and so much more.

Because the park is located downtown in a hustling and bustling area, you’ll commonly see the business crowd hanging out there. You’ll find that the park caters to downtown workers and residents’ needs and desires since this is so popular to this demographic.

Given its location, it’s a great place to hold business and company events and workshops. You’re likely to see events there taking place, such as those hosted by health and fitness companies and enthusiasts.
